The Airport is closed

It’s 2am at the airport; we have people sleeping in the outdoor café!!

The airport closed at 11pm and won’t open until 4am

This reminded me

In my youth I spent a few nights sleeping in different airports around the world myself. My first big trip traveling solo was to San Francisco, I missed out on the flight from Los Angeles, so I had to find somewhere to sleep. Back then I was a bit scared to go and find a hotel all by myself, and thought that it would be safer to stay at the airport.

I found a corridor and to my surprise there where dozens of people sprawled out fast asleep. Tonight with the people in the outdoor café brought back lots of memories and I started to wonder about all the people around the world sleeping in airports.

I started a Google searches and came across this web site called The Guide to Sleeping in Airports. (http://www.sleepinginairports.net/) It has all this information dedicated to sleeping in Airport around the world and loads more information that all travellers will find very useful. In particular there is a list of airport’s that will provide cots. Airport Lounge information and how to sleep in the airport tips like this one

11. It’s sometimes better to arrive than depart: The Arrivals lounges are sometimes more comfortable than the Ticket Counter area. It’s amazing how different the two areas can be in some airports. Of course airport logic seems to be that people who are departing immediately go to their gates; they don’t sit around the ticket counters for hours. The arrivals lounge aims to make all those family members, who are waiting for your flight to finally arrive after a four hour delay, a little more comfortable until you and your bags finally show up. (Excerpt from sleepinginairports.net)

You never know when a snowstorm, hurricane (or erupting Icelandic volcano) will leave you stranded at the airport. So if you plan on traveling soon this web site has so much useful information even if you don’t plan on sleeping in the airport.

See you ate the aiport
